Education Programs
We offer a range of education and training programs in two broad categories, ACFE and General Adult Education courses.
ACFE (Adult & Community Further Education) FUNDED – These courses are subsidized by the government and are directed toward developing or improving workplace skills in order to encourage a return to study or develop employment opportunities. ECH ensures a high standard of pre-accredited training through qualified instructors and encourages students to seek Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Recognition of Current Competency (RCC). Examples of such courses conducted at the House during the year are:
Computer courses. These include but are not limited to – beginners’ courses, intermediate courses, computers for mature learners, advanced word and excel courses, web design and desktop publishing
Adult Literacy. These include – developing your writing skills through creative writing, adult literacy and numeracy
Permaculture. This is a 16 week certificated course facilitated by Telopea Mountain Permaculture. Conducted annually, it commences at the beginning of the second term of the year.
Hospitality Training (Safe Food handling 1; Supervisor Safe Food Handling; Responsible Service of Alcohol), Running a Food Business
GENERAL ADULT EDUCATION (GAE) – These courses are provided on a fee for service basis. Mindful of rising costs in general, we attempt to provide a wide range of courses that are developed either in response to community requests or through perceived community needs. We are always aware of the need to both respond to the changing demands of our community as well as to provide courses that might challenge our community and offer courses that may not have normally been considered by our community. In that regard we are always open to approached from prospective tutors wishing to offer a course.
Examples of our broad and ever changing general program are:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Computer based Courses
- Bushfire Preparedness
- Personal Development
- Fun and Relaxation
- Arts and Craft
- Environmental Care
- Hospitality Training
- First Aid
- Kids Program
